Sir - Assalaamu Alaikum! I look forward very keenly to receiving Al-Balaagh regularly, since it is the only journal that makes such information, pleasant, witty and enlightening reading. I make sure that I have spare time to go through every single page, whereas, because of my profession, I find no time to read other journals and magazines from Trinidad, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, etc, including some of my medical journals.

Maulawi Ashraf Ali Thanwi writes: "It is a billion times better to be USELESS and remain in rigid Islamic schools than to be busy in learning English; for though there may be NO ability and accomplishment (in Islamic schools), religious beliefs at least, will not be corrupted; there will at least be LOVE FOR MEN OF RELIGIOUS KNOWLEDGE. Although one may get the job of a MOSQUE SWEEPER, it is BETTER that attaining proficiency in English and becoming Lawyers, Barristers, etc". (Fataawa Raheemiyyah, Vol.1, pp. 16-17)

Al-Balaagh Comment: So THAT'S what it is all about! Keep the Muslims uneducated, ignorant and STUPID, so that they may continue to bow reverently, with closed eyes, to the Mullahs, and worship them!

To study Astronomy to the extent of knowing the Qiblah and times of prayer is enough. to study Astronomy further is HARAAM. (Fataawa Aalamgiri, Vol. 9,p. 126)

Those animals whose meat we eat, we can drink their Urine as well. (Durre Mukhtaar Vol. 1; Hiyaayah, Vol.1; Sharah Waqaayah)

Rasoolullah (S) taught us not to have sex standing, for this weakens the body. ("Kitaabun Nikaah" by Maulawi Zahier Ahmed Ragie, p.43)

Al-Balaagh Comment: A STANDING ORDER instruction from Rasoolullah , no doubt!

Being afraid of committing Zina (adultery/fornication), if someone Masturbates while Fasting, then he can expect sawaab (Spiritual reward). (Hidaayah, Vol.1:p.893)

Al-Balaagh Comment: No doubt there will be plenty of sawaab-hungry Muslims who will be FAST enough to grab this bonus-Sawaab with BOTH hands!!

Custom or Deen?

Issue Feb/March 2005 (Vol.30. N0.1)

Allah (SWT) says in the Holy Quran: "It is those who believe and confuse not their beliefs with the wrong that are truly in security, for they are in the right guidence." (6:82)

CAN WE ALLOW CUSTOMS TO CONFUSE OUR BEIEFS? When customs CANNOT be changed, they then become matters of worship or belief.

We therefore have to question the merits and demerits of a practice to discover whether it is in conformity with our belief system, and whether it is beneficial to mankind. Therein lies the core of our liberating process:

"It is", says Sayyid Qutub, "necessary for us to revive the Muslim community which is buried under the debris of the man-made traditions of several generations and which is crushed under the weight of those false laws and CUSTOMS which are not even remotely related to Islamic teachings and which in spite of all this, calls itself the "World of Islam'."

Allah (SWT) questions us in the Quran: "WILL YOU FOLLOW THE WAY OF YOUR FOREFATHERS EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE MISGUIDED?"

Unnecessary Hajj

Issue May/June 1998 (Vol.23. No.4)

-Imaam Ghazzall (R))

The rich are very keen on spending on Hajj every year. Many times they leave their neighbours hungry*. There are many among the men of substance who are too liberal in spending their wealth on the performance of Hajj. They set out for the Pilgrimage year after year, as if they have none hungry or in want amongst their neighbours.

Abdallah ibn Mas'ood truley said that during the latter times, quite a large number of persons would perform the Hajj UNNECESSARILY simply because they would FIND IT EASY TO TRAVEL AND WOULD HAVE ENOUGH TO SPEND, but they would return from the Hajj WITHOUT ANY RECOMPENSE!     (Ihya-ul-Uloom)

* Our Nabi (S) warned the Ummah that: "He who eats his fill complacently without compassion and mercy in his heart - while the neighbour in his vicinity starves, is NOT a Mu'min" (Mishkaat) - Editor
